Kendrapara: The Executive Officer of Kendrapara Municipality, Debabrat Bal, has withheld the salary of a Sanitation Supervisor (Jamadar) as the Collector came across piles of garbage on the road in Nasidipur and Mahipala areas of Kendrapara township and also because sweepers were absent from duty.
The Executive Officer of Kendrapara Municipality held up the salary of Nimai Singh alias Ninia after Collector Samarth Verma’s orders Saturday.
While Collector Samarth Verma went to monitor source aggregation work at the township, he came across water logging in Nasidipur and Mahipala. Piles of garbage were lying by the roadside and drains were not cleaned.
“The Sanitary Supervisor had failed to control the sweepers and to provide a healthy environment in the locality,” said Bal.
The Kendrapara Municipality, which is one of the oldest civic bodies in the state and is going to celebrate its 150th anniversary, is undeveloped.
If a visitor comes to Kendrapara during the rainy season then s/he would definitely come across water logging due to the unauthorised buildings in the township area built on water release channels.
Areas like Jaipura, Ranpada, Baurisahi, Nasidipur, Kajala, Mahipala, Amabadi and Ichhapur get waterlogged within hours of a downpour.
Unhygienic conditions generally prevail in the township due to lack of proper drainage facilities and non-maintenance of drains. Piles of garbage can be seen by the roadside in most areas of the district.
“I have asked the Executive Officer of Kendrapara Municipality to ensure a hygienic environment. Steps are going to be taken shortly to make the town encroachment-free and clear rainwater release points,” said Collector Samartha Verma.
