Bhubaneswar: The office of Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted collectors of South Odisha including Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Koraput to be prepared for rescue and rehabilitation measures in view of heavy rainfall forecast as an effect of a low pressure in Bay of Bengal, August 9.
In a communication to the collectors of seven districts, the SRC cautioned the districts facing heavy rainfall threat to keep the official machineries up and running to tackle any rain related disasters such as floods, landslides arising out of severe rains.
“The District Collectors under orange (be prepared)/ yellow (be updated) warning are requested to keep the administrative machinery fully prepared to meet any possible flood/ water-logging issue that may arise in the event of intense rainfall. All the districts are to operate round-the-clock and update the situation from time to time,” the order said.
The IMD issued yellow warnings for some districts for which moderate rainfall will be witnessed due to the influence of low preassure. The trend is likely to from August 9 to August 10 in districts like Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Khurda, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadark, Jagatsinghpur, Keonjhar and Balasore.
On the other hand districts like Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Samablpur, Devgad, Sundargarh, Nuapada, Bolangir, Sonpur, Boudh and Angul have now been put under the orange category whereas the district administration has been asked to keep stock on developing weather trends and pass the information to the SRC. Heavy rains are also anticipated in these areas.
