Kendrapara: In a bizarre incident, a college girl committed suicide by hanging herself after a fight with her sister over clothes Monday. The incident has been reported from Baro village under Sadar police limits in Kendrapara district.
The deceased has been identified as Monalisha, a student of Kasinath Maha Vidyalaya at Kaipada in Jajpur.
According to sources, Monalisha was an ardent learner of classical music and dance. She along with her younger sister were learning classical music at Bhabagrahi Kala Niketan here.
Both were supposed to go to Cuttack with their teacher at around 11 AM yesterday. However, the duo started fighting over clothes. In a fit of rage, Monalisha attempted to commit suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling of the house.
She was immediately rushed to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) and later shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
Monalisha had performed during Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s visit to the district December 8.
