Bhubaneswar: The police here Friday moved the Orissa High Court seeking cancellation of gangster Raja Acharya’s bail, in a hint of fresh trouble for the gangster who had walked out of the Jharpada Special jail some time ago.
The Commissionerate Police was on a move to get the bail of the gangster cancelled. Twin City Commissioner of Police YB Khurania had said the police was mulling the filing of a petition for this after obtaining certain documents from the high court. The court had granted him conditional bail April 20 in a case relating to the abduction of an employee of Jyote motors and extortion of money from him. The bail was granted against two sureties of Rs 50, 000 each. The court had also directed him to appear before Lingaraj police on a regular basis.
Raja walked out of the Jharpada Special Jail April 25. The Bhubaneswar additional district judge court had rejected Acharya’s bail plea in the kidnapping and extortion case in March last year, following which he moved the high court.
Notably, Acharya was arrested from Goa May 28, 2008. The Bhubaneswar district and sessions court had convicted him in the Judo coach Biranchi Das murder case and sentenced to life imprisonment. He was serving the term in the Jharpada Special jail since 2008.
