Commissionerate Police nabs two for illegal firecracker trading

Bhubaneswar: Commissionerate Police arrested two persons for illegally stocking firecrackers worth crores of rupees, a source said Monday.

The accused persons were identified as Chhabi alias Chhabindra Kumar Subudhi and his brother Pabi alias Pabitra Kumar Subudhi.

Based on intelligence inputs, cops got to know that certain traders from Jatni had illegally stocked firecrackers worth crores of rupees in various populated areas in order to make a profit by selling them during Diwali.

A special team of police under Jatni Police Station IIC Soumyakanta Baliarsingh Sunday night raided a firecracker warehouse located at Majhi Sahi in Kusumati village and subsequently nabbed the trader-brothers. Later, the cops seized a huge quantity of locally manufactured and company-made crackers.

The two traders operated without valid government license and administrative permission. Based on this, both of them were booked under Section-5 of Explosives Act, 1884 and Odisha Fireworks and Loudspeakers Regulation Act, 1985 at Jatni Police Station, Bhubaneswar zone-III ACP Pradeep Kumar Rout said.

Rout further informed that Commissionerate Police will continue to raid various firecracker warehouses and factories as per the directions of the Commissioner.
