Committee to identify site for RD campus

Bhubaneswar: Following protests over the proposal to set up second campus of RD Women’s’ University on Utkal University premises, the state government has formed a committee to identify suitable place for the new campus.
Higher Education Minister Ananta Das Tuesday hinted that the government may drop its plan to set up the second campus of the women’s university inside Utkal University premises. He said a committee has been formed to identify a new site for the upcoming campus.
The committee will be headed by RD University Vice-Chancellor Padmaja Mishra while higher education director, Khurda collector, director estates and Utkal University VC would be the other members of the panel. The panel will identify a suitable place and will submit a report to the Higher Education Department by March 15, Das said.
“After getting the report from the panel, a decision will be taken where the new campus will be set up,” the minister said. Sources said the state government, in 2016, had allotted 30 acres land at Daspur on the outskirts of the city to RD Women’s University for the second campus but the varsity authorities refused the proposal citing security and distance issues.
