Cuttack, Oct 17: Orissa’s chief coach Debashis Mohanty was ecstatic after the team’s emphatic eight wickets victory against Assam in a Group A Ranji encounter at the Barabati Stadium here Saturday.
“We did not play well in our last two matches against Vidarbha and Maharashtra. So there was a lot of pressure on us to perform well in this match. We took some new strategy into the game and full credit to our players that they executed those perfectly,” an elated Debashis stated.
Hailing the pacers who were instrumental in scripting the win Debashis said, “They bowled well and pitched the ball in the right areas. They did not try to experiment too much and reaped rich rewards.”
Debashis had a special praise for youngster Suryakant Pradhan, who achieved his best first class figures, and batsmen Govind Poddar and Anurag Sarangi. “The two youngsters batted splendidly and did not give Assam any chance to return into the game. Poddar is in the form of his life now. Hopefully he will continue in the same vein in the next games,” he said.
However Debashis expressed concern over the form of some of the other batters. “As a batting unit, we have still not clicked. I hope our senior batsmen will return to form soon,” he pointed out.
