Bhubaneswar, April 15: Terming the formation of Janata Parivar a significant step, Congress said their party will support the merger to counter the BJP at the Centre.
“The Janata Parivar which has been formed to counter BJP will be supported by Congress,” said Congress leader and former MP Pradip Majhi.
“It is a significant step by the leaders of those parties that have played a key role at the Central level in the past,” Majhi said
Now the BJP is in power at the Centre and others are in opposition. Most of the parties of Janata Parivar had extended support to the UPA government and we expect that they will work together with Congress to counter BJP,” he said.
The state unit of the BJP meanwhile criticised the union of the six socialist parties under the banner of Janata Parivar, to be led by Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, and said the formation of Janata Parivar will have little impact on the BJP at the Centre.
“The BJP has got the mandate of the public and the formation of Janata Parivar won’t have any impact on our party at the Centre. They (Janata Parivar leaders) will never succeed in their plan,” said BJP leader Suresh Pujari.
The Biju Janata Dal (BJD), on
the other hand, has clarified it
has no plans to join any national alliance.
“The BJD has no plans to join any such group at the national level. The union of political parties under a banner had taken place in the past which remained unsuccessful due to difference in opinion among the parties,” BJD spokesperson Amar Satpathy said.
