Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Lalatendu Bidyadhar Mohapatra alias Lulu Mohapatra, who breathed his last Sunday evening aged 52, was neglected in the party, according to some leaders.
As thousands bid adieu to Mohapatra at Congress Bhawan here, Congress chief whip Tara Prasad Bahinipati said Lulu was depressed as he had been sidelined. “This affected his health condition and it’s a fact,” said the Jeypore MLA.
Echoing Bahinipati, Congress leader Naba Das said Lulu was not provided a position in the party which he deserved.
Some BJD leaders, who were previously associated with Congress and knew Lulu closely, claimed they left the party because he was not getting due recognition.
Notably, the firebrand Congress leader had decided to organise a ‘Yuva Garjan Samabesh’ February 2 this year gathering all young supporters of his party to protest state government’s failure on various fronts.
Unfortunately, he was not allowed to organise the event as the Congress leadership had another programme on the same day at the party headquarters here.
Besides, the post of Youth Congress president was also taken away from him when he was ailing, which was opposed by several senior leaders too.
Meanwile, the leader’s mortal remains were consigned to flames at his village Gada Rodhanga in the presence of several leaders, who paid tearful tributes to the departed soul.
