Bhubaneswar, August 29: With the successful first phase operation of conjoined twins from Kandhamal at AIIMS New Delhi, the state government Tuesday said that help of medical experts from America will be taken for the second phase operation, which will be undertaken after a gap of about 45 days.
“The health condition of the twins after the first phase separation surgery is good,” Health Minister Pratap Jena told the media at the Secretariat Tuesday.
“The operation began at 9 am yesterday which lasted for about 20 hours till today morning,” Jena said.
He further informed that the operation will be done in two phases. “The initial phase of surgery is successful and the second phase will be undertaken after 45 days.”
“A doctor from Japan was invited to assist in the first phase of the operation and now help of medical experts from America will be taken for the second phase,” the minister said.
According to AIIMS neurosurgery department head Prof Ashok Mohapatra the 20-hour-long operation continued till 6 am Tuesday. After operation the twins have been kept on ventilator.
