Cuttack: Doctors at Sriram Chandra Bhanja Medical College and Hospital (SCBMCH) here Thursday conducted an MRI scan on the conjoined twins of Nayagarh—Ganga and Jamuna.
The twin sisters were carried to SCBMCH from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Postgraduate Institute of Paediatrics (Sishu Bhawan) for the MRI scan as the premier childcare hospital does not have the facility.
Sources said two child specialists, a doctor from the radiology department and two technicians were present during the MRI scan of Ganga and Jamuna. “The MRI scan on the twin sisters was conducted in two phases between 11.30 am and 12.15 pm,” said a source in the SCBMCH.
Meanwhile, Sishu Bhawan authorities claimed they are taking necessary steps to save the lives of both Ganga and Jamuna. “We will analyze the twins’ MRI scan, ultrasound, CT scan and other test reports before finalising a blueprint for a surgery on them. Experts will study the locations and statuses of some vital organs of the twin sisters, including liver, heart, kidney and veins,” said Sishu Bhawan surgery department chief professor PK Jena.
Notably, authorities of the childcare institute have constituted a special team under the leadership of Jena for treatment of the twins.
Sishu Bhawan sources said the twins shared a heart, which has been located in Jamuna. “The MRI scan has confirmed that the twins have several complications in their veins. Our experts will study their medical reports and take a call on their treatment. We are now providing milk powder to Ganga and Jamuna,” said Sishu Bhawan superintendent Saroj Kumar Satpathy.
SCBMCH administrative officer Pratap Mishra, meanwhile, directed the hospital employees not to seek money while conducting any test on the twins.
