Bhubaneswar: A conman duped an engineering intern of Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) of over Rs 50,000 on the pretext of availing sexual favours to him.
The victim is a resident of Mayurbhanj district who was undergoing internship at Keonjhar branch of MCL.
According to sources, an unknown person with a girl’s photo as the WhatsApp DP befriended the victim a few months back. Following a prolonged conversation, the conman developed intimacy with the intern. The conman also posted several obscene images of the girl whose picture was used as the profile photo of the WhatsApp number.
Later, the fraudster asked him if he required sexual favours and asked him to pay Rs 5,000. Accordingly, the victim deposited the amount in the account given by the conman on the WhatsApp.
The thug also collected more than Rs 50,000 in different phases citing several reasons like booking a hotel, travel and others. However, when the guy refused to pay further without seeing the girl, the conman asked him to come to Bhubaneswar. The intern, who reached here Sunday, was shocked to find that the address given by the conman was fake.
He rushed to Sahid Nagar police station for registering a complaint against the conman but the cops there advised him to approach the cyber cell at Police Headquarters in Cuttack.
