Sambalpur, Feb 27: The state government has decided to provide pucca houses to construction workers who have registered their names for at least five years, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said while addressing the audience at Ainthapali on the occasion of Nirman Shramik Seva Diwas Friday.
Each of the beneficiaries will be provided Rs 1 lakh assistance for construction of houses, the CM announced, while urging the workers to come forward to get the benefits. He also explained several schemes of the government for welfare of the workers including assistance in education, healthcare and daughter’s marriage.
Patnaik called upon the construction workers to register their names with the concerned welfare board. The state government aims to include all construction workers under the Social Security Act by registering their names, he said. Elaborating other measures taken by the government for the financial security of the workers, the CM said that construction workers above 60 years of age, who have registered their names for at least five years, will get Rs 500 per month as pension. That apart, `5,000 will be provided to each worker to buy construction equipment.
The workers, who have been working outside the state and have not registered their names, will also be provided assistance by the Construction Workers’ Welfare Board.
Besides,Rs 1 lakh compensation will be provided to the kins of the construction workers for death at workplace. That apart, `50,000 will be provided to the victim for critical injuries at workplace, pointed out Patnaik.
He further said that a number of programmes have been planned to develop Sambalpur into a modern and ideal city. “The state government has allotted Rs 1,600 crore for integral development of the city. Facilities like roads, bridges, flyovers, drinking water and drainage will be improved using the funds,” the CM said adding that the state government has decided to introduce police commissionerate system in the city.
The state government has also announced that people, who will complete construction of houses under Indira Awas Yojana and Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana by March 31, will get Rs 15,500 more from the government through MGNREGS, Pottangi MLA Prafulla Kumar Pangi said Friday at Pottangi.
