Malkangiri: In a major breakthrough, police Friday night arrested a contractor who had been supplying explosives to Maoists in Chitrakonda area of Malkangiri district.
This was stated by SP Jagmohan Meena at a presser here Saturday. Police seized the explosives and Rs 61,738 in cash from the contactor Tarakanath Pal.
Police were patrolling in the evening near Paplur where they found Taraknath from MPV-38 moving about suspiciously.
The police checked his bag and found 10 detonators, wires of 20 metres, a cell phone and daily rations.
He was arrested and taken to the police station. After grilling, the accused admitted that he had being supplying explosives to Maoists of Kalimela Dalam for a long time.
The SP said Tarakanath had a meeting with Maoist leader Randev in Paplur forest and was waiting for a militiaman to hand over the explosives.
Tarakanath is said to be the director of Asha Construction. He along with another contractor Ardhendu Sarkar had been carrying out various contractual works.
A case was registered against the accused and he was produced in a court.
