Brajarajnagar: Dhabaleswar Sahoo, a sub-inspector at this police station in Jharsuguda district, Thursday earned all-round appreciation for his bid to save the life of an octogenarian patient.
Even as his attempt couldn’t save the life of the man, it certainly gave Dhabaleswar a new identity, which is different from the conventional image of a police officer.
Dhabaleswar offered money, donated blood and did everything to save the life of the 80-year-old setting an example for other officers to emulate.
According to reports, Dulal Sa (80) of Orient Paper Mill Colony had been living in the company quarter for the last eight years. His condition suddenly turned critical Wednesday and he had none to look after him.
When Dhabaleswar came to know about the miseries of the elderly and reached his place with a home guard. He found Sa lying in a puddle of stool and urine. Dhabaleswar immediately took Sa to Khaliakani hospital by his vehicle. Later, he shifted the patient to Jharsuguda as the latter’s condition deteriorated at night. He even donated blood to the Sa and spent for his medicines.
However, his effort didn’t yield the desired results and the man died.
Finally, he managed to trace the kin of the deceased and offered them Rs 2,000 to perform the last rites.
Dhabaleswar, a resident of Patnagarh in Bolangir district, joined police department in 2011 and was later transferred to Ainthapalli police station in Sambalpur district. He joined the Brajarajnagar police station about six months ago.
Locals appreciated the efforts of the police officer and said his act would go a long way in encouraging others to come forward and help the poor and needy.
