Bhubaneswar, June 8: The commissionerate police Monday arrested six people including the mastermind of the recent robbery at a retired high court judge’s house in CDA area of Cuttack.
Ramakant Parida alias Kalia (42) of Balasore, the prime accused, was caught from Chandikhol. He was allegedly involved in 17 cases of robbery lodged at different police stations in the state. Police commissioner RP Sharma said more persons are involved in the case and efforts were on to arrest them.
Speaking to the media, Sharma said a robbery committed in Salipur area showed a pattern similar to the one adopted by Kalia’s gang. The arrest in Salipur robbery led us to this gang, Sharma added.
“The gang melted the jewellery robbed from two houses,” the commissioner said.
Earlier, the police had arrested four dacoits: Pramod Samal and Mansa Swain from Kendrapara, Deepak Sutar from Nemal near Salipur and Mohammed Rehan from Salipur. Sharma said Kalia had visited the CDA area May 27 for reconnoissance. “Later, all the accused met in Chandikhol May 29 and executed the plan in the wee hours of May 30,” he added.
Gold trader Ramesh Pradhan, who had helped the looters sell the booty, had been arrested earlier.
Around 10 persons had reportedly gone to retired high court judge PK Mohanty’s house in a Bolero jeep. After committing the crime, only six had left in the jeep at around 3 am. The other three took Mohanty’s car and travelled up to Rasulgarh in Bhubaneswar where they abandoned the car and went towards Khurda in their jeep.
