Bhubaneswar: Ferran Corominas (17th) and Hugo Boumas (61st) scored on either halves as FC Goa eased in to the quarterfinals of the Super Cup with a sublime 3-0 victory over Indian Arrows here at the Kalinga Stadium, Saturday.
Corominas opened the scoring before Hugo doubled the lead in the second half for the ISL finalists. Deepak Tangri however scored an own goal in the last 10 minutes of the game to hand the Goan side a comfortable victory. Goa will face the winner of Jamshedpur FC versus Churchill Brothers match in the round of 8.
Ferran Corominas opened the scoring with a 17th minute penalty and doubled the lead for the 2018-19 Indian Super League (ISL) runners-up in the 61st minute before Deepak Tangri would score an own goal 20 minutes later.
Arrows started the game on a higher note playing the pressure game right from the start and did not allow Goa to play their natural free-flowing passing game. However, the Sergio Lobera-coached side earned a penalty when Sanjeev Stalin accidentally handled the ball inside the box while trying to block Zaid Krouch’s shot. Corominas made no mistake from the spot.
Though Arrows dominated the first half but lacked finesse in the attacking third. The Gaurs too tried to extend their lead but Anwar Ali and co. stood firm on their ground and did not all the opposition to penetrate.
The Gaurs doubled their lead in the second half against the run of the play. Corominas forwarded a through ball for Boumous who received the ball, went past Gill and found the back of the net. The Goan side made it 3-0 in the 81st minute when Brandon Fernandes’ curling corner was turned in his own net by Tangri.
In the other match of the day, Delhi Dynamos emerged winner and qualify for the quarterfinals after their opponents East Bengal decided not to turn up for the match in a protest against the AIFF. This is the second time Delhi are getting a bye in this tournament – they were given a walkover by Gokulam Kerala.
