Dharakote: In a bizarre incident, a woman died while her husband was left battling for life after they set themselves on fire over a family feud in Kahirapali village under this block in Ganjam district, Monday.
According to sources, the woman had served food to the man’s parents when they were sitting in the veranda of the house. While they were having food, the man returned home drunk and spotted his parents eating in veranda. Furious, he scolded his wife that soon led to an altercation. Thinking it was a normal tiff, the man’s parents remained silent and continued with their dinner.
Meanwhile, the man took kerosene and poured it on his wife. In a fit of rage, his wife also poured kerosene on the man. Later, the two set themselves on fire.
Hearing their screams, neighbours and their parents rushed in and saw them on fire. They doused the flames and rushed them to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur. Later, they were shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack where the woman succumbed to burn injuries while the condition of the man was stated to be critical.
