Jajpur: In a shocking incident, a couple was killed and set on fire at Nimapali village of Pingal panchayat under Sukinda block in this district late Sunday night.
While the couple was identified as Shaila and Basanti Balumuch, police efforts are underway to find out how they were murdered and who the miscreants are.
According to a source, about six to seven villagers have so far died over some yet to be identified reasons for the last two weeks. The villagers had since been suspecting that all the deceased had fallen victim to black magic practiced by the deceased couple.
Some miscreants went to the couple’s house Sunday night, murdered them in their sleep and set their house on fire.
On being informed, Kalinga Nagar police reached the village Monday morning and launched an investigation.
Notably, a man beheaded a woman suspecting her to be a black magic practitioner at Chhatara village under Danagadi police outpost of Jajpurroad police limits in Jajpur district. Police arrested him when he was roaming near Duburi while carrying the severed head of the woman.
