Cuttack: The second Kendriya Vidyalaya (KV-II) at Khapuria of Madhupatna in the district may stop the admission process from the next academic year, courtesy lack of infrastructure.
Recently, the deputy commissioner of Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) has written to Cuttack Collector Sushant Mohapatra to the stop admission process from the next academic year. The letter has thrown the future of about 400 students currently studying at the central school into darkness.
The KV-II, since its inception in 2010, is functioning from its temporary campus on the premises of government press at Nuapada-Madhupatna. Now the school having Class I to X is facing acute shortage of infrastructure which is badly affecting the study of the students.
According to sources, taking note of high demand for more KVs in the Silver City, the KV II was started in a hurry resulting in infrastructural bottlenecks. Three years ago a decision was taken to shift the school from Khapuria to Nuapada to resolve the issue. The district administration had allotted 8 acres of land for construction of school buildings.
However, the land was swampy and covered with mud and not suitable for carrying out construction work. In order to make the surface even, then collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra had directed the JICA authorities to dump the soil wastes generated from their work on the land. Besides, the Cuttack Municipal Corporation was also asked to dump the garbage generated from various wards on the proposed land.
However, neither the JICA nor the civic body has unloaded a single pile of garbage on the proposed land in the past three years. On the contrary, there are repeated demands from the guardians of the students to open Class XI and Class XII at the school. However, it is even difficult to operate the existing classes from the premises, the deputy commissioner pointed out in the letter.
According to sources, the Public Works department has submitted a report to the collector and stated that over `2 crore is needed to convert the rough surface suitable for construction.
Subsequently, the district administration had informed the KV authorities to allot the land in Barang area.
However, the KV authorities rejected the proposal saying the place was far away from the city and it is not possible on their part to run the school from that area.
The Collector Saturday wrote to the KVS not to stop the admission process at the school. “We will not let the school to shut down at any cost. We are looking for alternative space,” he said.
