Jharsuguda: Jharsuguda police Tuesday claimed to have busted a 12-member interstate cyber fraud gang, and seized dozens of bank passbooks, ATM cards, mobile phones and vehicles.

Addressing a presser at Town Police Station here, Superintendent of Police Gundala Reddy Raghavendra said that investigators recovered more than 61 passbooks from various banks, 41 ATM cards, 19 mobile phones, a scooter and a car.

The arrested are: Sonu Mandal, 23; Shubham Prasad, 21; Shivam Sahu, 20; Abhay Ghosh, 20; Sameer Suna, 20; M Jagadishwar Rao, 19; Naresh Bag, 25; Dheeraj Gadua, 19; Jogeshwar Chand, 24; and Abhiraj Sa, 19.

Police also detained two minors. Authorities said the gang was linked to cyber fraud networks in Bihar, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand.

The suspects allegedly lured victims by promising money through online gaming.

The fraudsters would open dummy bank accounts and issue duplicate SIM cards by using the documents of some innocent people.

The documents, including Aadhaar card, mobile number, duplicate SIM cards and photos, to the cyber fraud branches of the fraudsters in other states, where stolen funds were withdrawn from ATMs in Jharsuguda and re-deposited into prepared accounts before the cash was siphoned off.

Police registered a case (577/2025) at Town Police Station. The accused have been produced in court, including the two minors.

Raghavendra said further arrests are likely as the investigation expands beyond Jharsuguda.
