Cuttack, Feb 17: Police Wednesday arrested two members of a rival gang of Dhalasamanta brothers and produced them in a court here.
Accused Lokanath Sahu alias Loka and Dilanwaj Khan aka Chiku, two prominent members of T-gang, were sent to jail after the court rejected their bail pleas.
According to sources, police had detained Loka from Chauliaganj area Tuesday and seized a pistol and five rounds of live bullets from him.
“Loka was operating a gun supply racket with the help of T-gang. He used to supply guns to local criminals after procuring them from Munger in Bihar,” said a senior police officer.
Sources said police caught Loka while he was supplying a gun to a person at the behest of T-gang member Akhana, now lodged in Choudwar jail.
Deputy police commissioner Sanjeev Arora said several criminal cases were registered against Loka at Chauliganj, Choudwar, Mangalabagh, Sahid Nagar and Mancheswar police stations.
Police said Chiku, who was adept in bomb-making, was at large after the Diwanbazar firing incident here February 1. He was caught by security personnel near the court of sub-divisional judicial magistrate (SDJM) Tuesday.
Police claimed to have seized two bombs, 200 grams of gunpowder, 100 grams iron pins, 100 grams iron balls and other bomb-making material during a raid on Chiku’s Diwanbazar residence.
Sources said Chiku was booked in several cases by commsionerate police and Khurda police.
Commissionerate police sources said the T-gang members have become more active after the arrest of Dhalasamanta brothers. “We have information that the arrest of Dhalasamanta brothers has emboldened the morale of T-gang,” a police official said. PNN
