Sushant Dhalasamanta
Bhubaneswar: Claiming to have solved the mysterious disappearance of Dipu Mallick and Om, the former aides of the Dhalasamanta brothers, the commissionerate police said Tuesday that it was the notorious gangster siblings who had killed the two men and disposed of their bodies outside the state.
“The two missing former aides of the Dhalasamanta brothers were killed by the two gangsters. They disposed of the bodies outside the state,” said twin-city Police Commissioner Yogesh Bahadur Khurania to the media. He said interrogation of the Dhalasamanta brothers is in progress for details about where they dumped the bodies of Dipu Mallick and Om.
Mallick’s father, Adwaita Mallick, had earlier alleged that the Dhalasamanta brothers – Sushant Dhalasamanta and Sushil Dhalasamanta – had killed his son after abducting him in November 2013. The commissionerate police have already recorded the statements of Adwaita and some key witnesses in the case. Adwaita has demanded death penalty for the Dhalasamanta brothers for killing his son.
Police sources, however, said it is still unclear whether the Dhalasamanta brothers had themselves killed their two aides or engaged contract killers to commit the crime. Recovery of the two bodies now remains a major challenge for the cops.
Since 2000, Dipu Mallick and Om had been working as tender fixers for the Dhalasamanta brothers and functioned as the sharpshooters of their bosses, said police sources. The Dhalasamanta brothers had reportedly formed four groups to run their criminal empire. “The first group had men who transported the smuggled items; the second group used to manage the gangster brothers’ tender business; the third had men who worked as contract killers; and the fourth group had men who stayed in touch with influential people,” said a police official familiar with the findings of the ongoing investigations.
Around 15,000 to 20,000 goons were working for the Dhalasamanta brothers, said sources. Police officials said a massive cache of arms and ammunition could be recovered if a few dozen of these goons who played leading roles are arrested.
A team of the commissionerate police had recovered Mallick’s photograph and his driving license from the Dhalasamanta brothers’ rented house in Visakhapatnam last week. A police team had also seized a gun, 35 rounds of bullets and a hard disk from the Visakhapatnam house. Officials of the commissionerate police had conducted a search operation at the house in Visakhapatnam after obtaining permission from a local court there. PNN
