Koraput: Three miscreants managed to escape following an exchange of fire in with the police in the wee hours of Saturday.
Sources said the encounter was reported from Gopabandhu Nagar area when a Jeypore Town police raided the spot after getting information about the presence of a criminal gang.
The criminals were planning to commit a dacoity in the area, sources said.
However, the dacoits managed to flee spot after firing two rounds at the police team who also retaliated by opening fire at them. The accused have been identified as Rakesh Prasad, Shankar Sahu and Shiv Shankar Panigrahi.
Senior police officials said that an operation is underway and the miscreants will be nabbed soon.
