BHUBANESWAR: ‘Kalanurangam’, a festival of dance and music, organised by Nrutya Darshan Academy has been hosted successfully at Bhanja Kala Mandap here recently.
On this concluding day, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena and Ashok Kumar Tripathy were the chief guests. Renowned Odia actor Ajit Kumar Das and retired lecture of Utkal Sangeet Mahavidyalay also joined as the guests of honour.
On the inauguration day of the event February 27, Kalanurangam Sanman was awarded to Padmashree Guru Aruna Mohanty and Guru Dhaneswar Swain along with certificates and Rs 15,000 as a token of appreciation in the presence of eminent Odissi Dancer Padmasree Minati Mishra, deputy director, ORMAS, Bipin Bihari Rout and Tankadhar Tripathy, President, Yuvamorcha Bharatiya Janata Party, Odisha.
The winner also performed in the cultural programme of the evening. The event was kick started with the performance of eminent solo dancer Rahul Acharya on ‘Meera Padavali’. The original score was by Hema Desai, whose remix was done by Nazia Alam, Agnimitra Behera and Sukanta Kumar Kundu.
The Rhythm composition was done by Guru Dhaneswar Swain and script was written by Pandit Nityananda Mishra. The choreography was done by Rahul Acharya. A duet performance by Bhumisuta Sahoo and Avipsa, students of ‘Shivakshya’, enthralled one and all present on the occasion.
A solo Bharatnatyam recital ‘Melaprapti’ was performed by Pavitra Krishna Bhat in combination with Allaripu and Ganapati Stuti, an invocation towards the deity of dance Nataraja set to Adi Talam. This was followed by a Odissi duet Bakulavaranam Pallavi in Raag Bakulavaranam and taal Ek taali by Ranjan Kumar Parida and Asutosh from Nrutya Naivedya under the guidance of guru Pravat Kumar Swain.
The next performance was a group presentation on ‘Devadasi’ under the supervision by Guru Rojalin Mahapatra. The concluding performance was ‘Deshi Karma’, a Sambalpuri folk dance by Lok Shastra Kala Parishad, Cuttack lead by Guru Gangadhar Das.
A group of 13 folk dancers performed in the act. The act entails worshiping Maa Karamsani. ‘Mandal’, a melodious musical instrument, was used for this act. Guru Bimbadhar Das gave the welcome speech while the vote of thanks was proposed by Guru Biswajit Das. The festival was conducted successfuly by Srinibas Ghatuary.
