Parjang: A man, who had been declared dead by police two months ago, Wednesday returned to Paramhanspur village under Parjang block in Dhenkanal district.
Two months ago, his family members had identified his photo and the death rituals were also performed. His wife behaved like a widow and avoided using bangles, vermilion and colourful sarees.
But, the man returned after two months since his ‘death’, taking all family members and villagers by surprise.
Sarat Chandra Sahu (65) of Paramhanspur village had been staying at different hermitages. He used to come to his house at regular intervals.
Nayapali police in Bhubaneswar had registered an unnatural death case (102/18) after finding an elderly man’s body December 5.
The police had released an advisory in newspapers, mentioning that the body was kept at a mortuary in Capital Hospital.
After being informed by some reporters, Sarat’s family had gone to Bhubaneswar December 17. But the police had already burnt the body December 10.
However, the police had shown the photo of the man to the Sarat’s family members, who identified the image as that of Sarat.
Thereafter, the family members had performed all rituals associated with a person’s death.
Kualo sarpanch Anil Bhutia Wednesday happened to see someone looking alike Sarat sitting in a van at Bahlar square.
Out of curiosity, Bhutia asked him his name and address.
When he answered he is Sarat, Bhutia was dumbfounded. Sarat said he was going to his village in Paramhanspur.
After getting off the van at Paramhanspur square, he went straight to his daughter’s house, leaving all staring at him with astonishment.
As the news spread, relatives, neighbours and people from nearby villagers thronged his house to see the return of ‘dead man’.
However, Sarat’s wife was relieved and she happily changed the attire of a widow and wore the dress of a normal wife.
