Rourkela/Nabarangpur: Tension gripped the Rourkela Government Hospital (RGH) in Sundargarh district Sunday after the death of a pregnant woman and her unborn baby.
According to reports, Bhama Kisan from Church Basti here was admitted to the hospital by her husband Harish Patra by around 11.30 pm Saturday night after she complained of labour pain.
Moments later, the woman and the baby were declared dead by the doctors. As the news spread, the irate locals gathered at the hospital and created a ruckus alleging negligence in treatment.
Meanwhile, another expectant mother delivered half-way while being carried on a cot to a hospital due to lack of proper road connectivity at Tarajodi village under Jharigaon block in Nabarangpur district
The tribal woman, Kaushalya Santa, wife of Manasaye Santa complained of labour pain Saturday. With the help of an ASHA worker Nayana Santa, family members informed a 102 ambulance. However, the ambulance stopped two kilometres away as it could not travel further due to bad road condition in the village.
With no other option left, the family members carried Kaushalya on a cot through the muddy and uneven road for two kilometres. However, Kaushalya delivered a baby boy on roadside.
Both Kaushalya and her newborn were later shifted to Ichhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in the ambulance and their condition is said to be stable.
Earlier, a woman of Baghabeda under Jharigaon here delivered a child midway after an ambulance failed to reach her due to absence of motorable road to the village Saturday morning.
