Puri, April 14: A resident of Kachera Lane was found dead 100 metre away from Kumbharpada police station under mysterious circumstances, Tuesday.
The body of deceased Ullas Sahu (36) was sent to district headquarters hospital for post-mortem.
Sahu’s wife Ranjita told mediapersons her husband had mortgaged their house for Rs 40,000 three years ago.
“The lender wanted to take possession of our house for which he has been threatening my husband with dire consequences. As my husband did not bother, the lender hatched a plot to eliminate him. He killed my husband by throwing hot water on him”, said Ranjita adding that the body was dumped near a liquor shop on Jail Road to destroy evidence.
Sahu was last seen at 10 am. His body was later found at 2pm, said Ranjita.
On the other hand, police attributed Sahu’s death to liquor consumption. His skin got tanned because of soaring temperature, said Kumbharpada police inspector Khireswar Sahu.
An unnatural death case has been registered in this connection. Actual reason behind Sahu’ death will be ascertained after post-mortem report comes, the inspector added.
