Chandbali, April 11: As the mercury soars with every passing day, water crisis in some parts of this block is deepening because of tube wells and pump houses lying defunct. While people are struggling to get adequate supply of water, the authorities have not yet repaired the tube wells and pump houses.
In view of the looming crisis, local MLA Byomkesh Ray held a review meeting at the office of the BDO on steps taken by the rural water
supply and sanitation (RWSS) department to ensure water supply in various parts of the block.
The MLA suggested the officials to provide at least 200 new tube wells in 33 panchayats. Ray also said that there are plans to have solar-powered water supply projects in certain villages like Madhapur and Ghatapur panchayats where electricity supply has been a problem.
There are about 2,134 tube wells in 33 gram panchayats under this block. But 50 of them have conked out while four pump houses are in disuse, completely paralysing the water supply.
BDO Manoj Patra, executive
engineer of the RWSS department, Bhadrak, Saroj Kumar Samal, SDO Ramakant Panigrahi were present in the meeting.
