Sonepur: A young couple committed suicide by consuming poison at Balarang village under Binika police limits in Subarnapur district late Wednesday night.
The boy was identified as Achyuta Bhoi (22). The identity of the minor girl is being withheld.
According to locals, Achyuta was in love with the minor while his family took objection to this affair. They had even fixed his marriage somewhere else and the date fixed was, May 30. This move is said to have forced the couple to take the extreme steps.
Achyuta and the minor consumed poison at the backyard of former’s house. The family members rescued the couple in critical conditions and rushed them to Binika community health centre (CHC) after learning of the incident somehow.
Later they were shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Sonepur town where the doctors pronounced them ‘dead on arrival’.
Police seized the bodies for autopsy and have launched an investigation.
