Puri: Police Wednesday arrested a man on charges of raping and killing a woman inside Mangupada forest last fortnight. Accused Buddhadev Behera, 31, might have killed the woman after raping her, IG (operation) Soumendra Priyadarshi said.
“Behera used to develop relationship with his five victims and offer them spiked drinks before raping them. He used to kill them after rape,” Priyadarshi told newsmen. The accused hailing from Ghinahaja in Deogarh district, was arrested in Jajpur. The police said he along with victim Anita Nayak, 27, went to Ankoi near Delang in an auto-rickshaw. On the way he offered a spiked drink to the victim after which Anita fell asleep. The accused is reported to have shifted her to Mangupada forest where he raped her and slit her throat with a knife.
