Nayagarh: After spreading scare in Ladugaon region in Koksara block of Kalahandi district, the vector-borne dengue is spreading its tentacles in Nayagarh.
As per government reports, the disease has registered more than four-fold rise this season, compared to last year.
According to sources, more than 10 patients are being admitted to the Nayagarh district headquarters hospital (DHH) on a daily basis. This has triggered panic among the locals.
At present, many patients are undergoing treatment in the dengue ward of the DHH.
Locals accused the administration of sitting idle even as the disease seems to be spreading in both rural and urban areas of the district. However, the administration officials refuted the allegations.
A doctor of the DHH said the dengue ward was functioning well and people were being treated under expert supervision.
Earlier last week, the state government had informed that the total number of dengue cases stood at 1,841 which is significantly higher than 412 cases registered during the corresponding period last year.
A few days back, there were reports of dengue scare in Ladugaon region where the villagers were boycotted by nearby villages after the spread of the disease. Sources claimed that more than 150 have been afflicted by dengue in the area.
A scare of the disease has unnerved people as they are found fleeing to other places fearing for their lives while residents in adjoining villages have stopped visiting the affected villages. Moreover, guardians have stopped students from going to schools in the fear of the spread of the disease.
