Baripada: Unable to get food, 10 students left their hostel in Kejhara Primary School for their houses Friday. The headmaster was suspended over the incident.
According to reports, the students left the school under Jashipur block in Mayurbhanj district in the wee hours and walked to Tanagabila Chhak, 5 km from the school. Local residents detained them and got to know of the reason for their leaving the hostel.
The kids said that the teachers had not been coming to the school for five days, and food was not cooked during the period. For five days, they had eaten puffed rice and cooked rice by themselves. As puffed rice and the rice exhausted, they had to go hungry in the night.
The matter came to the notice of the higher authorities of the school and mass education department. Following a directive from district education officer Dhrubacharan Behera, the authorities concerned suspended headmaster-in-charge Rasananda Mohant.
Meanwhile, 15 students of this school were rehabilitated at Kohali School while five others at Ghatkuan School.
