Sambalpur: Legal action would be taken against 100 persons including officials for their alleged involvement in irregularities in the implementation of the National Food Security Act (NFSA), district collector Samartha Verma said.
District food and civil supplies officer was asked to initiate action against the tainted officials and others involved in the scam, Verma said while addressing a meeting at the conference hall of the project director of the District Rural Development Agency here Wednesday.
People’s representatives, who attended the meeting, expressed resentment over exclusion of a huge number of people belonging to economically weaker sections of the society. They demanded that food and civil supplies department conduct a probe into the matter and take measures to include poor people in the scheme.
District food and civil supplies officer Pitambar Acharya said 73,715 beneficiaries belonging to 21,124 families have been provided with ration cards under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana by June 16.
That apart, 7,08,066 beneficiaries of 1,96,122 families have been distributed ration cards under NFSA. The department has targeted to cover 8,12,841 beneficiaries under the scheme.
Acharya further added every month, the beneficiaries, who fail to fulfill the guidelines of NFSA, are identified and taken out of the list. At the same time, eligible beneficiaries are included in the list. The process is being done online.
Among others, Rengali MLA Ramesh Patua, Kuchinda MLA Rabinarayan Nayak and members of Zilla Parishad attended the meet. PNN
