Keonjhar: Even as dreaded dengue is spreading alarmingly in Barbil and in other areas of Keojhar district, BJP activists Wednesday charged the state government with failure to curb the vector-borne disease.
On the other hand, the district administration intensified an awareness drive in civic body areas as collector N Tirumala Nayak himself joined in the awareness drive. The collector visited different wards to tell people to adhere to various preventive measures.
Supporters of the BJP youth wing staged a demonstration outside the CDMO office and burned effigies of the Chief Minister and the health minister.
They warned of intensifying their agitation in days to come if the government fails to take immediate measures. The BJP youth wing supporters alleged that in last 15 days, the number of affected has mounted to 600 while two patients have died.
“As the government has failed to control the spread of the killer disease, it is gradually acquiring epidemic proportions,” they lamented.
On the other hand, taking part in the awareness campaign, the collector has started visiting Barbil, Keonjhar and Joda and called upon local people, health workers, NGO activists and media persons to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings and take care of sanitation.
Nayak laid stress on use of mosquito nets and apply mosquito repellant oil on body so as to keep the disease away. He advised people not to allow water to stagnate anywhere around their houses.
The collector sought cooperation of all stakeholders in this exercise. PNN
