Pallahara/Kendrapara, June 8: Six persons were killed and four injured in two separate road mishaps during the last 48 hours.
In the first incident, five persons were killed and two were injured seriously after the jeep they were travelling rammed into a stationery truck on National Highway-149 near Nuthuripasi petrol pump under Khamar police limits near here in Angul district late Saturday night. They were returning from a marriage party in Dhenkanal in a Mahindra Bolero.
The victims include an AYUSH doctor and four employees of Khamar upgraded health centre. The victims were identified as Dr Sovan Sahu, employees Ajit Gadanaik (25), Pitabas Majhi (22), Lakshman Sahu (24) and Kirtiman Biswal (14-son of a hospital staff Debaraj Biswal).
The injured persons Ranjan Pradhan and Madhu Sahu were given primary treatment at the Khamar health centre and later shifted to SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack. The jeep and truck drivers fled the scene after the mishap.
A pal of gloom descended in the area after reports surfaced as hundreds of people thronged the site.
The intensity of the mishap was so severe that the Bolero was reduced to mangle heap of steel.
They were about a kilometre away from the hospital when the mishap occurred. Police registered a case in this connection and sent the bodies for post-mortem.
In yet another incident, a 35-year-old motorcyclist was killed Monday and two pillion riders seriously injured in Malapatana village in Kendrapara district when an unidentified vehicle collided with their vehicle, the police said.
The deceased has been identified as Bauribandhu Sethy, a native of Badamohanipur village of Pattamundai tehsil.
The two injured persons were shifted to district hospital in Kendrapara where their condition was stated to be critical, the police said.
