Bhubaneswar: At the end of culling of chickens in Keranga village of Khurda district the state government Tuesday appealed to the people not to keep birds for the next three months even as H5N1 virus has been detected in samples collected from Rourkela.
‘‘The residents of Keranga are requested not to do poultry farming for the next three months,’’ animal resources development department secretary Bishnupada Sethi said here in the day.
Sethi said H5N1 virus has been detected in the samples collected from CISF camp and IG park in Rourkela. The park has been closed for indefinite period, he said clarifying chicken in the steel city have not been affected with bird flu virus.
Asked about the death of crows at Salia Sahi in Bhubaneswar, Salipur in Cuttack and Jajpur, Sethi said, ‘‘Many birds are succumbing to cold conditions. Our officials have collected samples of dead birds and have examined them.’’ ‘‘No bird flu virus has been detected in those samples,’’ he added.
