Bhubaneswar: Abhishek Mohapatra of Orissa emerged champions in both U-16 boy’ singles and doubles event of the All India Tennis Tournament at Raipur in Chhattisgarh Friday. In the singles match he defeated Vishes Patel of Gujarat 6-2, 6-3 in straight sets. Later in the day he teamed up with Vishes to beat the combo Pranjal Tiwary (MP) and Shaurya Manik (CS) 6-1, 4-6, 10-7.

Priyadarshini Sahu of Orissa has been selected in the India Red team for the BCCI Women’s Challenger Trophy scheduled to be played January 4-8 next year, Orissa Cricket association (OCA) announced in a press release Friday.
Orissa beat Assam
Orissa defeated Assam by three wickets in the U-16 women’s East-Zonal ODI match played at Melagarh in Tripura, Friday which was reduced to 47-overs per side due to delayed start.
Opting to bat first after winning the toss Assam women were all out for 112 in 39 overs as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Uma Chetai (38 n o) was the top scorer for the hosts with Gayatri Gurung (23) and Sangita Saikia (14) being the other two batswomen to reach double figures. Namrata Raghubanshi (3/22) was the pick of the bowlers for Orissa while Tanmayee Behera, Sonali Hemram and Santi Purti took two wickets each.
In reply, the visitors overhauledthe target with four overs to spare. GM Alkananda (32 n o) was the top scorer for Orissa. BLS Baishnabi (16) was the other notable scorer. Nomita Sinha and Bhagyashree Barman took two wickets each for Assam.
