Bhubaneswar, July 8: Students of the Farhan Ali tennis academy completed a century of domestic titles in various age segments when three players of the centre won singles and doubles titles at different parts of the country, Friday.
In Chandigarh, Ameek Kiran Baath partnering Harleen Kaur of Chandigarh won the under-16 doubles title in the AITA Championship series. In the final the duo defeated the Haryana combo of Priyanka Jhakar and Princy Panchal 6-1, 6-3. Ameek and her partner dominated the match from the start and never allowed the opposition to settle down.
Ameek, a ninth standard student of KIIT International School was bit unlucky to miss the double crown as in the under-14 singles final she went down 6-2, 0-6, 6-2 to top seed Sarah Dev. It was a close affair and could have gone either way. Sarah is a well known name in the Indian junior tennis circuit and had been to Paris as a member of the under-13 India squad.
Meanwhile Anshu Kumar Bhuyian bagged a double crown in the AITA men’s 50K ranking tournament in Coimbatore. In the men’s final Anshu defeated Irfan Hussain 6-3, 6-2 in a one-sided encounter. Then teaming up with Avilash Mishra, Ansu also claimed the doubles title with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Irfan and Ihsaan Hussain.
The track record of students coached by Farhan have been exemplary since the academy came into existence two-and-half-years ago. All have performed well in the junior and some in the senior segments of the AITA-conducted tournaments.
