Cuttack, Nov 20: DR College, Bhubaneswar emerged champions in the Utkal University-organised Inter-College cricket tournament defeating Raghunath Jew College by 82 runs in the final played at the SCB Medical College Ground here, Friday. .
Being put into bat, DR College scored 175 all out in 39 overs. Avinab Ghosh (59, 104b, 6×4) emerged the top scorer for his side. He was well-supported by Sk Salim and Ashish Kumar Sahoo both of whom scored 34 each. Krishna Choudhury (4/32) bowled well for Raghunath Jew.
However, in spite of restricting DR College to a reachable target, Raghunath Jew were never in the chase as they lost wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for 93 in 28.1 overs.
Only Subhrajit Singh (41, 43b, 6×4) was the only batsman to offer some resistance against some incisive bowling by Sumit Kumar Moharana (3/15) and Dipti Ranjan Bihari (3/11), who shared six wickets between them. The other Raghunath Jew batsmen did not apply themselves and were guilty of throwing their wickets away when a little bit of application could have helped their cause immensely.
Remembering a legend
The ‘Ganadauda’ (mass running) to celebrate the 116th birth anniversary of Dr Hare Krushna Mahatab, will take place here November 21. The race is being organised by the Orissa Olympic Association in collaboration with the Dr Hare Krushna Mahatab Smruty Committee. Approximately 600 students from various schools are expected to take part in the run which will start from Killa Fort at 7am in the morning and end at the Barabati Stadium here.
