Ganjam: Dreaded criminal Kalu Biswal was injured and nabbed by police following an encounter near Aska Charimail square in this district Wednesday night.
The encounter took place when Kalu, a resident of Baliapalli village near Kabisuryanagar, was on his way to Balipad on a bike.
After spotting the cops, Kalu opened fire at them. In retaliation, the police fired back at Kalu and injured him.
Kalu, who received a bullet injury on his right leg, was admitted first at Asika government hospital before being shifted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital at Berhampur.
Police have seized a pistol, three rounds of bullets and a bike from his possession.
More than 10 cases are pending against Kalu in Asika, Badgada, Dharakot, Sorda, Kabisuryanagar areas, police said.
