Kendrapara, Jan 25: A 34-year-old youth was beaten to death by his friends Saturday evening in front of his father on the outskirts of Khandalo village under Aul police limits, said IIC Umashankar Moharana.
Victim Kailash Mallick was taking liquor with his friends when a quarrel erupted between them in front of Attala panchayat office. The youths attacked Kailash with lathis, even as his father reached there on hearing about the scuffle. Kailash was rushed to Aul community health centre where doctors declared him dead on arrival. The victim’s father Gogabarbhan Mallick lodged an FIR at Aul police station alleging Vivekananda Patra, Biswanath Das, Srikant Das, Manoj Behera and Jiban Kabi beat his son to death in front of him. He was also attacked by the youths when he tried to rescue his son, Gogabarbhan alleged .
Acting on the FIR, police registered a case under various sections of IPC seized the body, Moharana said. The accused are at large and a manhunt has been launched to nab them, he added. Kailash had married a relative of Vivekananda seven months back. The reason behind the altercation and the subsequent murder are yet to be ascertained. Police suspect that the youths, who were under the influence of alcohol, attacked Kailash over some provocation, Moharana said.
