Chhatrapur: Sanskrit schools in Ganjam district are fighting a tough battle for survival with a sharp decline in the number of students.
The drop in the number of students has cast a shadow on the future of these schools. Show-cause notices issued by the director, secondary education, have come as a rude shock to the admirers of the ancient language.
The director, secondary education, expressing concerns over the drop in the student strength has issued show-cause notices to eight Sanskrit schools in the district.
The school authorities have been asked to file their replies within a month of the receipt of the notices as to why the recognition granted to these schools shall not be withdrawn.
The matter came to the fore after a letter to this effect was available with the district education officer. The authorities of these schools have been warned of suitable action under the Odisha Education Act-1969 if they fail to file their replies within the stipulated period.
The schools are Jainarayan Sanskrit School near Taratarini, Talasar Sanskrit School, Upendra Bhanja Sanskrit School in Buguda, Dibyajivan Sanskrit School at Domuhar, Sri Pattadev Sanskrit School in Dharakote, Samsingh Sanskrit School at Khariaguda, Ramodhin Sanskrit School in Berhampur and a Sanskrit School in Dayanidhipur.
The director, secondary education, has issued the show-cause notices (698, 701, 704, 707, 710, 713, 716 and 719) under Section-6(B) of the Odisha Education Act-1969.
Earlier, the education department had sought reports about these schools from the district education office over granting approval to these schools.
The district education officer conducted a probe and filed a report in this regard. The officer had replied that these schools are fighting for survival after a sharp drop in the students’ strength with each class having less than 10 students.
