Bhubaneswar: In a significant crackdown on interstate drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bhubaneswar Zonal Unit, secured the conviction of two individuals for illegal Ganja transport.
Both were sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 1 lakh each.
The case dates back to August 2020, when 175 kg of Ganja, concealed under pumpkins in a truck, was seized.
The consignment, originating from Odisha, was headed to West Bengal. NCB promptly arrested Shailesh Saradaprasad Pandey of Thane, Maharashtra, and Juber Ahamad of Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, at the site.
After a detailed probe, the NCB filed a complaint in February 2021. August 13, the Second Additional District and Sessions Judge, Bhubaneswar, convicted both under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.
The verdict highlights the NCB’s dedication to a drug-free India through rigorous investigation and legal enforcement.
Citizens are urged to aid the fight against drug trafficking by reporting information anonymously through MANAS, the National Narcotics Helpline (Toll-Free: 1933).
