Kendrapara: A 52-year-old woman, Binata Ghadei alias Kinita, the wife of Bijaya Ghadei, of Chakada Gogua was beaten to death with a mortar by her stepson in the wee hours of Thursday, in-charge IIC Manoranjan Choudhury of Tantiapala Marine police station said.
Choudhury said Bijaya Ghadei has four wives. The deceased Binata was his second wife. Most of the time, Binod Ghadei, the son of Bijaya’s first wife, used to create disturbance in the house after getting drunk.
Wednesday night, Binod hatched a plan to kill his stepmother. He sent others in the family to see an opera being staged nearby. He too went to see the opera, but returned drunk and beat his stepmother Binata to death with a mortar.
When Bijaya returned home Thursday morning after the opera, he found his wife lying dead in a pool of blood. He lodged an FIR at the Tantiapala Marine police station.
Police launched a probe after registering a case under Section 302 of IPC. The police later arrested Binod and seized the mortar from him.
Police sent body for autopsy to the district headquarters hospital. Binod will be produced in a court Friday, said IIC Choudhury.
