Bhubaneswar: Durga Puja idol immersion underway Thursday amid heightened security and traffic arrangements.
According to reports, police have deployed more than 40 platoons, and temporary immersion ponds have been prepared at several locations.
The designated immersion points include the Kuakhai River, the new bridge over the Daya River and Basuaghai along Tankapani Road.
The Commissionerate Police has imposed traffic restrictions from 2 pm Thursday to 1 am Friday to regulate the movement of immersion processions and minimise congestion in city.
The authorities have also prohibited the use of DJ vehicles and firecrackers during the processions. Organisers have been directed to use traditional musical instruments and bands instead, with violations likely to invite action.
Police have advised commuters to plan their journeys in advance and follow traffic advisories and instructions issued during the immersion period.
