Bhubaneshwr: The East Coast Railway has launched a special awareness drive for passengers travelling in overcrowded trains. The Railway administration has urged passengers to avoid travelling on footboards, buffers and rooftops of trains to ensure safety.
Passengers are requested not to accept food and drinks from strangers; not to carry inflammable items like gas cylinders, stoves, debris, cigarettes, matchboxes etc; not to touch suspicious things like tiffin boxes, baggage etc without any owner; to avoid journeys without or with improper tickets; not to lean from coaches of running trains and not to entrain or detrain when the train is in motion.
ECoR has also urged passengers and voluntary organisations to take special care of co-passengers and counsel those who are leaning from running trains, travelling on rooftops, footboards and buffers of train and who carry inflammable items etc.
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) have also been advised to take precautions in crowd control and to keep watch on touts and anti-socials, particularly in crowded areas like Booking and PRS counters, enquiry counters, tourist complexes and mela sheds etc.
ECoR has arranged exclusive amenities for the convenience of passengers. Special trains, extra ticket counters, additional enquiry counters & information centres, special train time table, tourist complex, mela shed, catering & drinking water, sanitation, medical assistance booth, illuminations and safety & security arrangements have been provided for
pilgrims.
Apart from this level crossing gate management, manpower mobilisation etc, have been made for smooth train operations. ECoR is also providing help to the Temple administration with its trained workforce, and materials to avoid any possible breakdowns of chariots during the Rath Yatra.
ECoR has also urged pilgrims to use mobile apps like UTS (Unreserved Ticketing System) app and Mobile Rath Yatra App ECOR Yatra so that they can know all information about Railways and book unreserved tickets.
It has also requested passengers to use the Railway security helpline ‘182,’ which is functional round-the-clock to report
cases affecting the security of passengers.
