Bhubaneswar, Sept 12: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has written to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) seeking a thorough probe into railway job scam.
“We have written to the CBI to take over the case related to fake recruitments for which we have received several complaints,” said a senior ECoR official Monday.
Railway authorities said that CBI probe into the matter is necessary in view of the large scale operation indicating involvement of outside elements in the racket.
“As criminality of outside elements is suspected it was thought fit to hand over the case to CBI to get into the root of the case,” the official said.
Notably Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) of ECoR Manju Ray had previously ordered a vigilance probe into the involvement of railway employees in the scam September 6.
Ray had also stated that ECoR was planning to give the case to CBI to ensure a detailed probe.
The scam came to light after Kishore Behera, a Grade II technician of the Banspani Electrical Department of Indian Railway was nabbed by Nayapalli police from Jharkhand September 5 for duping five persons of a family in name of providing jobs in the railways. He had taken around `22 lakh from the aspirants.
Earlier, three employees of the Mancheswar Railway Workshop were arrested by the Commissionerate Police September 3 for allegedly defrauding lakhs of rupees from job aspirants.
