Balasore: Vigilance sleuths Saturday arrested a Junior Engineer (JE) for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 1500 in his office at Khaira in Balasore district.
According to sources, the accused, Sri Kaustav, an electrical engineer had demanded the bribe from one Ramakant Rout of Parikhama village for installation of a new transformer replacing the defunct one.
Ramakanta approached the anti-graft agency in this regard following which the vigilance sleuths laid a trap.
The accused JE was arrested red-handed while accepting the bribe money with seizure of Rs 1500.
The anti-corruption officials also conducted raid at his residence to unearth assets disproportionate to his known source of income.
A case under the Prevention of Corruption Amendment Act 2018 has been registered against the accused and further investigation is underway. The accused will be forwarded to the court, said an official.
