Brahmagiri: An employee of the electricity department sustained critical injuries after he fell off a utility pole here Saturday due to alleged negligence of the departmental officials.
Sources said the incident occurred in the afternoon when Balabhadra Pradhan, a resident of Palanka village and working under the electrical division here, was fixing some wires atop a utility pole near Kathua Road Square.
“As per the standard operating procedure, power supply was disconnected before Pradhan went up the ladder. However, as he was repairing a wire the supply was restored and Pradhan experienced an electrical shock before falling off the ladder,” said one of Pradhan’s colleagues who was present at the spot. Pradhan sustained deep injuries on his face, neck and arms and was being treated at a nearby healthcare facility at the time of filing the report.
Attempts of the correspondent to contact the electricity department went in vain as the phone calls went unanswered.
